PROGRAM TITLE: HAIR DESIGN/BARBER

OBJECTIVE: To prepare the student to be employed at entry level in the barber-hair styling field along with to take and pass the state board examination. This course prepares a student to be employed as a salon owner, hairstylist, barber, hair colorist, or permanent wave specialist.

REQUIREMENTS: 1500 total clock hours in Arkansas. Students must be 17 years old and have a high school diploma or GED. Student to Instructor ratio is 25:1 in all theory and lab classes as required by Arkansas State Board of Barber Examiners.

Hair Design and Barber Program Details

PROGRAM TITLE: TEACHER/MANAGER/INSTRUCTOR

OBJECTIVE: To prepare the student to be employed at entry-level as an Instructor or Manager in a school or shop setting. In addition, students work firsthand on learning proper supervisory skills, enabling them to be more successful at managing a salon or being a shop manager. This program also qualifies student to become workshop conductors.

REQUIREMENTS: Hold an active Barber’s license in the State of Arkansas. Have one year’s practical experience.

Teacher Manager Instructor Program Details

PROGRAM TITLE: COSMETOLOGY

OBJECTIVE: To prepare the student to be employed at entry-level professional providing beauty services and treatments to clients. Cosmetology services include hairstyling, make-up application, and nail care.

REQUIREMENTS: 1500 total clock hours in Arkansas. Students must be 17 years old and have a high school diploma or GED. Student to Instructor ratio is 20:1 in all theory and lab classes as required by the Arkansas Department of Health-Cosmetology Section

Cosmetology Program Details

PROGRAM TITLE: MANICURING (pending accreditation approval)

OBJECTIVE: The primary purpose of the program is to train students in both theory and practical skills, which will prepare them for state licensure and enhance their employment opportunities. The program provides information about career opportunities, seeking and obtaining employment and laws and regulations governing salon operation. The program is particularly directed toward developing in the student desirable habits and attitudes with respect to health, sanitation, and safety and encourages self-reliance, readiness to assist others, and ethical approach to this profession, as well as the business and legal aspects of salon operations.

Manicuring Program Details

PROGRAM TITLE: ESTHETICS(pending accreditation approval)

OBJECTIVE: Upon completion of the esthetic course requirements, the graduate will be able to: 1. Display personal integrity with self-confidence and positive attitude 2. Display effective communications skills, visual poise and proper grooming 3. Display effective employer-employee skills 4. Perform all skills at or above a basic level 5. Apply learned theory, technical information and related matter to assure sound judgements and procedures. To continue to grow as an Esthetician, the graduate should continue to learn new and current information related to skills, trends, and methods for career enhancement in cosmetology and related fields.

Esthetics Program Details

PROGRAM TITLE: TEACHER TRAINING(pending accreditation approval)

OBJECTIVE: Upon completion of the teacher training course requirements, the student will develop an understanding of the rules and regulations of Arkansas Technical School and the state. Students will demonstrate an understanding of teaching methodologies, learning styles, and exhibit an understanding of developing and teaching lesson plans.

REQUIREMENTS: 600 total clock hours in Arkansas. Students must be 17 years old and have a high school diploma or GED. Student to Instructor ratio is 20:1 in all theory and lab classes as required by Arkansas Department of Health-Cosmetology Section.
